VELARI

Velari: A surgical strike of light and fabric into the heart of a sleeping town.

Year: 2016
Location: Terranova da Sibari, Italy
Role: Design Development & Site-Specific Installation
Type: Temporary Urban Installation
Status: Completed

"Velari" was a temporary urban intervention that wound through a circuit of streets in the historic center of Terranova da Sibari, Calabria. Strips of colored nylon, almost transparent, were pulled across the streets.

The spaces grew quiet and slow, their surfaces capturing the light in a new way. Inspired by art’s capacity to redefine its own context, the project was not a pragmatic proposal for urban furniture, but a visual argument.

It was never about building anything. It was about awakening the ancient paths and, perhaps for a moment, the people walking them.
